Ask to be considered.

If there is a position you want, ask for it. Ask to be considered. If you are not qualified for the position but will do what it takes to receive the qualifications, i.e., take additional training, etc., to enhance your skills for the assignment, then ask for it. People who do not speak up for what they want in law enforcement seldom receive the opportunities they want. You have to use your voice for you.
